K – 6th Grade Programs

We offer multiple programs for younger students throughout the year. Most are built around participation in FIRST LEGO League, which you can learn more about here.

FIRST LEGO League Challenge (Grades 4th-6th, September-December)

In FLL Challenge, teams meet weekly to work on two big challenges: design, build, and program a LEGO robot to complete the game “missions”; and complete an “innovation project” to research how technology plays a role in that year’s theme and develop a concept for an innovation on an existing technology in that field.

For the 2025 fall season, the main meetings will happen on Saturday afternoons from 12-4pm, with additional “advanced skills” sessions on Monday* nights from 5-7pm (we may change the night, or add another night, if there is enough demand). The season ends with competing in the Southwest PA FLL Grand Championships in early December.

Students should only sign up for the advanced sessions if they have prior LEGO robotics experience AND are very focused and motivated. Our goal for offering these sessions are to meet the needs of students who don’t find our Saturday sessions engaging enough on their own.

Students will also have the option to continue the rest of the school year with monthly robotics workshops on Saturdays 10am-12pm, covering topics we don’t have time to play with during the fall, including electricity and circuits, 3D modeling and 3D printing, Arduino, among others. Dates: January 17th, February 14th, March 21st or 28th (depending on 7th-12th grade competition schedule), April 25th, and May 23rd.

Program Dues:

FLL Challenge on Saturdays: $0 to $350

Advanced FLL Challenge Sessions: $0 to $250 ($100 as an add-on to Saturday FLL Challenge)

Monthly Robotics Workshops: $0 to $100

FIRST LEGO League Explore (Grades 2nd-4th, March-May)

In FLL Explore, kids meet weekly to work as a team to build programmable LEGO models and design their own, all related to that year’s theme. The teams will also make posters about what they learn and practice presentation skills by participating in an end-of-season festival to share their work with friends and family.

For the 2026 spring season, meetings will happen on Saturday afternoons from 1-3pm.

Program Dues: $0 to $250

FIRST LEGO League Discover (Grades K-1st, Summer 2026)

We anticipate offering FLL Discover for the first time as a half-day camp in the summer of 2026. We anticipate announcing camp dates and further info in January 2026.
