As our season wraps up, FLL, FTC, and FRC, have been hard at work!

FLL Explore

On March 14th, Girls of Steel’s FLL Explore program had its first session! The program focuses on introducing first and second graders to various robotics skills such as teamwork, problem solving, and innovation using LEGO models. In the first session, students built Ground Penetrating Radar models and learned about how they are used in dig sites to locate artifacts. In the second session, students completed a teamwork activity in an obstacle course where they had to direct their teammates through the course blind. Students also started work on a LEGO dig site, which they continued in the third session, cooperating with their partners and learning about the layers of archaeology through the building process.

FTC

Our FTC teams participated in a scrimmage hosted by 4149 Terabytes, allowing them to participate in some more matches and grow as teams! Thanks to Terabytes for hosting us!

FRC

Our FRC students competed at the Greater Pittsburgh Regional and Miami Valley Regional. At GPR, while things were looking rough on the first day of practice, the team put incredible effort into getting the robot match-ready and scoring, and ended up securing a first place finish at GPR as well as the Sustainability award. Additionally, our Technical Project Manager, Hanying Zhang, became a FIRST Leadership Award Finalist and our mentor, Sarah Withee, won the Volunteer of the Year Award! While the team was not as successful at MVR, we still had a great time and learned a lot! Thank you to all of those who showed up for our team in the stands and watched along at home!

Looking Forward

Our FTC and FRC seasons have come to an end, but our summer season is only beginning! Students will participate in a variety of projects to further develop their robotics skills in preparation for the next season!
