Girls of Steel Robotics believes strongly that every kid in our community should be able to learn about robotics if it interests them. At the same time, competition registration fees, LEGOs, robot parts, tools, computers, and all of the other things we need for our programs can be quite expensive. To balance these two competing facts, in 2023 we introduced a sliding scale system for all program dues. For families interested in participating, we use adjusted gross income (found on the first page of a federal tax return) and household size to calculate reduced dues.
In practice, families making less than 150% of the federal poverty line can participate in our programs for free, families making over 400% of the federal poverty line pay full price, and families between these two levels pay a proportionally reduced amount.
We are committed to working with families to find a solution that allows all children to participate in Girls of Steel Robotics programs. Please reach out if program dues as calculated would be a barrier to participation.
